It's a marvelous portrait of an entire community in conflict and crisis, and, without losing sight of the actors on the scene, points to far deeper and more troubling forces at work not just on the East Coast of the US, but all over the world. I've always admired the way that some novelists (Dreiser, for example) can create a little model world, a replica that allows the reader to enter inside and feel how it works. I think you've done that with this book, which amounts to a salt-air terrarium of our troubled city. Congratulations!
